The Andrea Gaziano Memorial Fund
In memory of a brave and beautiful girl
Andrea Marie Gaziano passed away on October 19, 2006 after a lengthy battle with acute myelogenous leukemia. Andrea was a bright fourteen year-old freshman in High School whose passions were art, music, and poetry. Despite suffering from numerous relapses, Andrea refused to be defined by her medical condition or engage in self-pity. Andrea’s perseverance in the face of this terrible disease was truly inspirational. Her mother, Mary Ellen Gaziano, established the Andrea Gaziano Memorial Fund at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute as a tribute to her daughter’s bravery. The Dana Farber Cancer Institute is a world renowned cancer treatment center located in Boston, Massachusetts. Affiliated with Harvard Medical School, the Dana Farber Cancer Institute is solely committed to supporting patients with all forms of cancer and to finding cures for this disease. The Andrea Gaziano Memorial Fund is devoted to pediatric cancer research and is being administered by Andrea’s treating physician.
Since the Andrea Gaziano Memorial Fund was started in 2006 we have raised approximately $300,000! Events that contribute to the fund are: Andrea's Art Auction, Joshua's Run, Andrea's Angels Jimmy Fund Walk Team, and direct donations. The 2012 Andrea's Art Auction raised $19,500! We appreciate everyone's support and we are looking forward to the 5th Annual Andrea's Art Auction on February 9th, 2013.
“I had always wondered if there was something out there for me. This year I have found that art is that something….I don’t know what I would do without art because it is my great pleasure."
